ムーンストーン　Moonstone

ムーンストーンは、特にカリウムを多く含んだ正長石の系統に属する石です。

乳白色のなかに、青白い光彩があり、それが月の光のように見えることからムーンストーンと呼ばれるようになりました。

ムーンストーンは、正長石と曹長石が交互に層を重ねることでできています。

光が入ると層ごとに反射し、独特の青白い光を放ちます。

この光はシラー効果といい、ムーンストーンの特徴です。

そして特に青色の光を放つものを「ブルームーンストーン」

虹のような七色の光を放つものは「レインボーブルームーンストーン」と呼ばれています。

古代ローマ時代には、月を意味するセレニティスと呼ばれ月の、女神セレネに由来していします。

月のパワーを秘めた石として古くから大切にされてきています。

ムーンストーンは、６月生まれの誕生石です。

また「恋人たちの石」「愛を伝える石」とも言われ、

ムーンストーンのお手入れ

硬度が低く、平らで薄い結晶が重なり合った構造のため、剥がれやすく割れやすい石です。

超音波洗浄は避け、衝撃にも注意が必要です。 

ムーンストーンの産地

ムーンストーンの主な産地はスリランカです。他にも、インド、ミャンマー、タンザニア、アメリカなど多くの地域で産出されています。
